Sparring is similar to Versus, in that two people have a fight with each other. However, the fight itself is won in a different manner - there is no health bar involved. The match is given either a score limit or a time limit, and every time a successful blow is landed, gameplay freezes, the player is awarded a point and the fighters reset to their starting positions for another bout. This gameplay style revolves around careful defending skills and precise attacks more than the usual combo-based affair most characters are based on in standard fighting, and is very useful for polishing said skills for when they are most necessary in a normal fight.
